Music Artists
Alternative Party without interesting musical artists fit for the theme? Hardly - and this year makes no exception.
Cyberpunk as a term is sure to arouse many kinds of ideas, emotions and mental images and there is no simple way of defining it - artistically - but here's our approach, done the Alternative Party way!

Dope Stars Inc
It doesn't get much more cyberpunk than where this Italian group steered by Victor Love wants to take you. You're about to witness a reckless head-on dive straight into the stream of zeros and ones - first-hand. The band's lyrics and visual imagery go to the core of the corporation-driven digital science-fiction era. Dark, but not hopeless. Brutalised, but nowhere near ready to give up the fight.
While it's not easy to fully categorise the band, Dope Stars Inc has been characterised as being "industrial rock", "electro metal", or even "electro industrial". The band itself says their music is "cyberpunk rock". Want to make up your own mind? Join us at the Alternative Party 2009 and judge for yourself!
The live performance at the event will not only embrace the mental connection to the world of cyberpunk, but is also meant to celebrate the release of the band's third full-length album called "21st Century Slave" - coming out in summer 2009!
Additionally, Alternative Party has the privilege of being considered such an important event due to its theme this year that Dope Stars Inc is actually breaking off in the middle of their European album release tour just to squeeze in a performance at the Merikaapelihalli. Don't miss out!

Byproduct feat. Sellek & Hanks
Byproduct is a one-man musical act that takes its roots from computer games and demos and combines them with the elements of contemporary electronic music - mainly psytrance, acid and drum'n'bass - creating an easily recognisable sound unique to Byproduct alone. The music is sometimes cheery, sometimes dark, but always with a twist to hold the attention and the interest of the listeners all the way to the end.
Byproduct has released a full-length album called "Organisms" earlier this year, available at the Alternative Party shop during the event!
Oh, and to make matters more interesting, the performance is complemented by the live wizardry of VJs Sellek & Hanks!
Listen to Byproduct in Spotify.

MK10/FTHR Productions: Electronic Cabaree
Dronescapes, soft glitchy-Tek, live photoshopping. Served with spices and a hint of YLE. What better way to start the Alternative Party 2009. Here's an opening ceremony you will remember!
For more than a decade, Tuomas Munck has been making electronic music under various names. He's used just about every music production system imaginable and still doesn't know what key his tracks are in. Playmobil, FSOR (Future Sound of Rastila) and Destroy Berlin are just a couple of the artist names he's used.
In addition to the music, if you're looking for experience in the VJ business, you're looking for Mr. Jädertpolm. Simple as that. Improvised real-time photoshop collages are near extinct - replaced by computer software - but here we have a true professional of the field, and you're about to witness the skill live for the first time ever in Finland! It's also going to be the last time you can actually see Mr. Jädertpolm performing his art, so this is definitely something you don't want to miss out on!

64mula
If the phrase "too weird to live, too rare to die" is familiar, you pretty much know the category 64Mula falls under. The band was formed in 1999 by Barracuda and Loudus Plexus and have offered unique Commodore 64 moments combined with DJ and VJ performances ever since. Low frequencies, deep bass, cut beats, scratching, unexpected melodies - all this and more can be expected from this marvelous group.
64Mula offers pure C64 sounds as the basis, trusting in the power of this classic machine - no effects used. This is made possible by TBB's (Tero Hilpinen) editor and player which also enables live improvisation during the performances - something 64Mula is really keen on doing. Combine this with the art of DJing by Loudus Plexus and the VJ visuals and you have an esthetically pleasing musical experience you can't get from anywhere else!
64Mula has already made 3 CD releases and there is a new one coming out just before the Alternative Party 2009. At the same time, it's going to be the 10th anniversary performance of the group, so prepare yourselves for one of the best 64Mula experiences ever!

TrioDStruction
Trio DStruction is an orchestra that plays electronic music symphonies using only Nintendo DS and Korg DS-10 as their instruments. The music is full of spontaneous sounds and twists that are a result of the Trio's remarkable improvisation techniques. The luring dance grooves won't let your feet stay still but will gradually take control of both your body and your mind.
Don't be afraid to join the musical voyage with Trio DStruction. This is the new becoming of dance and rave culture. Be a part of it at Alternative Party 2009!

The Microkorgs
The Microkorgs is a synthesizer band consisting of four professionals of the music industry. The band's theme is 80's game music adapted to electronic dance music.
The purpose of the band is to have - and offer - nostalgic fun with music that just about everyone is familiar with, one way or another. So, don't miss out on the perfect opportunity to go retro - it's not forbidden to even the most hardcore cyberpunk fanatic!

Tero
Tero Mäyränen is a well-known music producer who has also released two albums on Rikos Records and has a strong demoscene background. He has remixed several other artists' tracks and featured on several compilations as well. What makes the performances interesting is the fact that he's using a Commodore 64 as a synthesizer.
The music has strong influences of 90's electro and acid and, while the music is often very experimental, it's still clearly dance music which makes Tero a popular live performer in techno parties - and an ideal performance to attend at Alternative Party 2009!

Healium
Healium, formed by J. Raninen and T. Kesäniemi, has been punishing their machines live for full 10 years. The group has released several domestic and international releases on labels like Skeletor Records and Djax-Up Beats. Nowadays, their releases are being handled by the American label Communiqué Records.
The group has performed in all kinds of events and places ranging from cellars to clubs, festivals to concert halls and even an old pigsty. The 303's essential to acid-techno are still squeaking and groaning the way they always have and their drums are still beating their rumbling call. Add a strobe light, some smoke and a house full of people dancing and you have yourself a Healium gig.
Times change, music gets more refined, but the spirit remains! Let this performance be a celebration of the techno purist side of any real cyberpunk fan!

Nebula Club DJs
Alternative Party 2009 musical performances are not all about playing live, but also include top-quality sets by DJs who could already be called Altparty residents! Here's our list of the turntable heroes this year.
DJ Thomas
If you have been in the Finnish electronic music scene in the recent years, you can't possibly have missed this name. DJ Thomas is not only technically talented, but in addition he plays solid trance and progressive house sets that any fan of the genres will like.
DJ Malakai
Here we have one fearless DJ - one who is not afraid of mixing together 8-bit sounds with crazy Japanese industrial, breakbeat and techno. His unique mixture of music and art of mixing is best experienced first-hand to fully understand it.
DJ PasiK
PasiK is a DJ who keeps the psychedelic sounds of Goa running strong and vibrant, combining both new and old sounds together in a way that will please even the toughest cyberpunk fan in range of the speakers. Prepare yourself for an experience from two millennia.
Ride Control
Can you say "neuro"? Imagine your cybernetic brains hooked to a high-voltage cable while overdosing on caffeine, and you're pretty close to where these guys will want you to be with their over-the-edge drum'n'bass sounds. You take the ride, but they're in control. Consider yourself warned.
