The Board: Alternative Party Association - where we are heading?

First, few comments of this blog and some background. The Alternative Party Association board has been elected for the year 2010 and we decided to open the Association-part a bit more. Thus, this blog will reflect some of the discussion we have in the board meetings and engage discussion with the community. I'm the secretary of the association and thus this task is mostly fitted to me, as I also write the meeting minutes.
Our first board meeting was unusual in that sense, that we first discussed about two hours about the current status of association and tried to look what is in the future. Maybe it's the teenage of the association, which then pushed us to think why are we here. Why are we here? What is our function? Based on the broad discussion, we think there are three different kind of roles.
First is to the demoscene. It was considered that Alternative Party needs to foster the transformation of the scene to new forms of art. The second major point was, that if possible we need to engage the new talents to join the scene. This is a well known problem that we can and try to tackle.
The third task considered vital was to make the awareness of digital media as form of art more high in the general public. This goal may be meet by the Alternative Party-event, but may also need other actions such as the Demo wall - like last year.
Based on this consideration, it was decided that the association needs some core set of values. The discussion is still ongoing on these. I at least would like to engage in dialogue with you guys: there's the comment box to discuss, and then there's IRC etc. What does these values mean for you? Are we missing something? But then to the values.
- creativity
- experimentation
- openness
- social
- art
Well, we made some decision in the board meeting also. Maybe the most important is, that we decided there will be an Alternative Party-event in 2010. I'll leave the communications of the details to Alternative Party-event organization, so follow the webpage.
Actually, this was the second core decision of the meeting: the different activities, such as the event, will work as separate organizations and not micromanaged by the board, but given space to make their own calls.
Lastly, it was asked that we create the short sentences that explain the meaning of the event. We actually created two, one for those who are engaged - for those the message is 'digital rebellion' and for the more general public we will speak of 'an event of digital culture and demoscene-art'.
