The brilliant Finnish electronic music veteran, Aavikko, is going to make us dance at the Alternative Party this year! Aavikko brings their retrofuturistic stage show, perhaps even with a hint of space, to us on Friday evening at the main stage. Think of them as a more lively, more eccentric, more fun and weirder version of Kraftwerk. Indeed they opened up for Kraftwerk at the Flow Festival in Helsinki. Their instruments have ranged from Casio synthesisers to saxophones, with even choirs and vocoders thrown in. Over the years their music and styling has progressed immensely. The final 15 minutes of their latest album, Novo Atlantis, is so skillfully scored it has been compared to the heights of Jarre's musical output. To top it all they are simply fantastic heard live. Aavikko was set up almost 15 years ago and they have had a great influence to the Finnish synth pop and are well known both in Finland and elsewhere. They are a band you should not miss under any circumstances. |
Listen to aavikko on MySpace and get into a good mood while waiting for the Alternative Party to come in a few months.
