Space, vast emptiness

2010-08-30 14:33 by Tomi Pajunen (1 comments)

It's amazing how little we know about space. About 20 years ago the known space in our solar system was pretty empty. Only 9 planets and few moons and asteroids.

Luckily improved radars and automated scanning systems has shown us how there are yet many things to be discovered. For example look at this video chart about discovered asteroids in the last 30 years.

And asteroids are not the only objects in the skies. For decades Pluto was one of the few (maybe the only one?) dwarf planet we knew. Recent discoveries of new dwarf planets, trans-Neptunian objects and plutoids has also shown us that the space may be vast but it's definitely not empty.

Also The Hubble Space Telescope has shown us that the empty looking spots in space are not empty. The Hubble Ultra Deep Field image revealed number of unknown galaxies.

So today we know that there are over half a million asteroids, dozens of plutoids & TN objects and 8 planets in our solar system, not to speak of known extrasolar planets, stars and galaxies. But yet we know so little.

I'm keen to know what the space has hidden from us.

"Nothing is so fatal to the progress of the human mind as to suppose that our views of science are ultimate; that there are no mysteries in nature; that our triumphs are complete, and that there are no new worlds to conquer" - Humphry Davy

Ps. Pluto, although you're not classified as a planet anymore we still love you <3

We,collectively need to look inward, not outwards. Until you know yourself, individually, you can not know them, who are elsewhere. Our perceptions are illussive, and controlled. When we find our true selves, outside of the fabricated world we exist in,we can then find, and be found by other worlds of being and existence..beyond the microscope.Beyond knowlege.
